District 6 Medical Examiners Data

The 2012 Medical Examiners Annual Report documents 11,850 total deaths in Pinellas County. Toxicology reports were submitted in 1,392 cases in both Pinellas and Pasco Counties of which 1,047 were performed (not all cases submitted to the ME for toxicology screenings are performed). 1,077 drugs were detected according to the reports (decedents may show more than one tracked drug).

  • From 2011 to 2012, the cases with Oxycodone found in toxicology reports dropped from 322 to 204, an overall decrease of 37%.
  • Hydrocodone dropped from 136 to 91, an overall decrease of 33%, and Methadone dropped from 127 to 118, an overall decrease of 7%.
  • From 2011 to 2012, the cases with Cocaine found in toxicology reports rose from 112 to 125, an increase of 12%.
  • From 2011 to 2012, the cases with Alprazolam (Xanax) decreased from 205 to 160, an overall decrease of 22%.
