Parents’ Day is July 26: Local non-profit encourages the community to show parent appreciation through social media campaign

St. Petersburg, Fla. (July 23, 2015) – This Sunday, July 26 is Parents’ Day, an annual reminder to children of all ages to show appreciation for their parents’ selfless commitment and lifelong sacrifice towards parenthood. To commemorate this important national holiday, the LiveFree! Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Pinellas County is encouraging the entire community to capture their appreciation through the social media campaign, Picture of Gratitude.

“Parents’ Day serves as a reminder to us all of the immensely significant role parents play,” says Daphne Lampley of the LiveFree! Coalition. “This is why we are encouraging the entire community to join us in showing our gratitude for parents with the Picture of Gratitude campaign.”

The entire community is invited to participate in the Picture of Gratitude campaign by submitting a photograph that captures their appreciation using the hashtag #PicofGratitude on Facebook or Twitter.  Send your picture to LiveFree! and at the conclusion of Parents’ Day, on July 26, one participant will be selected to win their parent a LiveFree! swag bag.

“We are excited for the opportunity to celebrate parents and hope to turn this into an annual activity of appreciation here in the Tampa Bay area,” says Lampley.

About LiveFree!
In 2003, LiveFree! Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition was formed after state data showed that Pinellas County was one of the highest-ranking counties for drug use in Florida, particularly among youth.  Today, LiveFree! raises awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse among youth and adults in Pinellas County. By offering training encouraging community advocacy, involving youth and law enforcement, participating in town hall meetings, creating environmental strategies, promoting public awareness and organizing awareness events and more, LiveFree! encourages Pinellas County families to live safe, healthy and drug-free.
