Medical Examiners Data for Youth

In 2012, two youth (under 17 years old) investigated by the Medical Examiner had drugs or toxins detected in their bodies. In 2011, 17 youth (less than 20 years old) investigated by the Medical Examiner had drugs or alcohol detected in their bodies.  Of those 17, 4 had alcohol present, 3 had THC (tetrahydrocannabinol, the active ingredient in marijuana) present, and 10 had prescription drugs detected.  Of those 10, Oxycodone was present in 1, Hydrocodone was present in 1 and benzodiazepines were present in 9.

It is important to note that for these cases where prescription drugs were detected, the total number of drugs overall is greater than the numbers deaths due to polydrug use by those abusing drugs.
